Pariot Wildfire is definitely one of the highest end SSDs on the market this year. What used to take an entire rack of hard drives a couple years ago, now fits in the palm of your hand. Extremely fast design coupled with high quality components has produced a monster drive. Using state of the art brand new solid state drive controllers from SandForce (SF-2281) this drive is ready to be your workhorse.
While SandForce is relatively new to the market having only been around for a couple years they are already dominating the high end controller consumer market. In fact, it’s pretty uncommon to find a performance grade SSD that isn’t using SandForce technology. The Wildfire series from Patriot is the first to use the SF-2200 series controller chips but these chips have been put to the test by other manufacturers. Kingston, Corsair, and OCZ are all using this chip for their solid state drive offerings. At the moment the SF-2281 is the most popular choice for consumers looking to get a great price to performance ratio.
It’s no surprise considering this chip has a sequential read speed at 555MB/s with a write speed at 520MB/s.Performance grade mechanical hard drives are currently at around 126MB/s. These drives also feature IOPs performance of as high as 85,000.
The PCB features 32nm Toshiba MLC NAND modules with 8GB storage each. Notice that there is no DRAM caching which would add latency and these drives are obviously not about latency. These drives are connected with a SATA III 6Gb/s port which is backwards compatible with SATA II and SATA. This is also due to the exceptional SandForce SF-2281 controller which does include trim support for operating systems that support it.
With a form factor of 2.5 inches these drives are perfect for any micro-ATX PC build where space is an issue. As with many drives available today these also include a 2.5 to 3.5 inch adapter if your case has no built in adapter between the two sizes.
If you want insanely fast performance you should really consider picking up one of the Patriot Wildfire sold state drives. They are available in multiple sizes including 120 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB. On the lower end you can pick up a 120 DB model for less than $250 which is an amazing deal considering the power these have in them.
